The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter

Montgomery, Alabama

Clergy, Staff and Vestry

Guiding our church, serving our community

Within our community there are many roles to fill.  The authority for the spiritual life and administration of our parish rests with Rosa Lindahl, our priest and Rector. We are fortunate to have a Deacon, Lee Wilkins, who serves alongside Rosa to assist with worship and, more important, to tend to the needs of the community beyond our doors.  In turn, Rosa and Lee work with a creative and dedicated staff that keep our parish running smoothly and well.

Members of the parish also play a critical role in the life of Holy Comforter.  Members of our Vestry (leadership board) are elected by the congregation and serve a 3-year term.   These leaders are responsible for the “temporal matters” of the church—care of the buildings and grounds, financial oversight, legal and contractual matters, etc.  Each year the Rector appoints and the Vestry confirms a Senior Warden who serves as the Vestry chairperson, and a Jr. Warden who takes the lead on all matters related to buildings and grounds.

We have different roles, different gifts, different work, for sure. Together we share the conviction that we are called to be an open, warmly welcoming Christian community.

Oh the places we have been, this parish and I! We’ve walked together through the nightmare of a pandemic. We have buried too many beloved parishioners to count AND…(that most holy, gracious “and.”)  I have been allowed to open space, clear the path of nostalgia (and fear) so that, daily, I walk alongside a brave and beautiful group of people who follow their Good Shepherd. He has led us to places where we can be a blessing to Montgomery and are being blessed as we serve God and our neighbor.  I hope you’ll come walk this pilgrim’s way with us!

I began serving as deacon at Holy Comforter just before the Covid-19 pandemic started. As we moved forward in faith together, we learned new ways of gathering and worshipping. We shared our fears, our grief, and yes, our gratitude and joys via Zoom, text, and FaceTime. We came out of that time changed, and we learned just how very much we care for and need each other and the Church. We learned that when times are dark, God will light the way through. It is a privilege to serve in this parish that continually lives out its faith, not only in its worship but in service to each other and the community. Holy Comforter is faith in action!
