Food Pantry

Serving Sisters & Brothers in Our Community

What started as a closet of donated canned food, set up to help individuals who came to the church in need of assistance, today is a thriving food pantry that serves fifty or so households a week.

In 2019, Immanuel Presbyterian Church became a partner with us in this ministry.  Both congregations provide weekly volunteers, make significant financial and food supply donations, and partner in playing critical leadership roles for the pantry.

Together, Holy Comforter and Immanuel volunteers serve neighbors and make real the baptismal covenant to respect the dignity of all people. What’s more, they have a wonderful time together and have built cherished friendships.

They are proof that ecumenical programs (partnerships) can work!

What are your hours and how often can I come?

The Food Pantry is open every Tuesday from 9:30am until 12:00pm.

Individuals and families can come once a month / every 30 days.

What do I need to bring?

No documents are required. If possible, please bring a sturdy shopping bag (or two!) for your groceries.

What if I can’t come on Tuesday?

A friend or family member can come in your place as long as you have them named and listed in your paperwork.

Do you provide assistance for bills or give cash?

No. We don’t keep any cash on site; only food. For financial assistance, please call or text 211.

Can I volunteer at the Food Pantry?

Yes! The Food Pantry is operated solely by volunteers!

Where does the Food Pantry get their food?

Thanks to generous donations, we purchase food from the Heart of Alabama Food Bank at a discounted price. We also receive food from local churches, food drives, individuals, and the Midwest Food Bank.

During the summer, we harvest fresh vegetables from our Holy Comforter Community Garden!
