This column of text, within the blue border, is set to a width of 1064px. With the body font size used, it results in each line of text having roughly 70 characters. This is an optimum width for readability.

Fonts

For body text we use EB Garamond. For headlines, we use Lato. This is a substitute for Gill Sans, which is not available from Google Fonts.

The base font size for EB Garamond (body text) is 17px for desktop, 15px for tablet, and 14 px for mobile.

Font size is varied with a clamp() function from 1.0rem (minimum) to 2.5rem (maximum), with 2.0rem as the optimal value. The decision to display body text at greater than 1rem was made because many of Holy Comforter’s members are older and may have difficulty reading smaller text.

Headings

Heading sizes are also controlled by clamp() functions. The largest size (H1) is 3.6rem. Smallest (H6) is 1.125rem. All clamp() values are set in css in the child theme.
